College student plots for entitled friend to move in with her nightmare roommate: 'Karen [spent] the rest of the year miserable'

College dorm dynamics can often feel like a real-life version of The Hunger Games. Everyone is trying to size each other up, friend groups are constantly forming and breaking apart, and the levels of scheming and pettiness are unmatched. Of course, if you're lucky enough, it doesn't have to be like this. You can find some decent people out there with whom you'll want to face the next four years. 

You might even get incredibly lucky with your freshman-year roommate. In fact, I will always envy two close friends of mine, who befriended each other as randomly placed roommates during our first year at school and are still besties almost a decade later. My situation, though not quite as petty as this author's tale of roommate musical chairs, was still much less ideal. I had a perfectly fine, but completely awkward relationship with my freshman year roommate. Essentially, we barely spoke to each other after the first semester and were politely counting the days until we could live with anyone else.   • This toxic friend group became all the more problematic after the author was mocked and berated by two of her friends—Karen and Colleen—as she was preparing to switch rooms and move in with another member of their group. However, she wasn't going to let these girls get away with their petty behavior. Knowing that Colleen was a people pleaser and that Karen was a nightmare to live with, she pressured them to move in together. Karen was enthusiastic to have a new replacement, but Colleen was too shy to voice her concerns. Now, the two live together, and let's just say that the dynamic is about as bad as the author predicted.
